An Epic Action-Packed and Globe-Spanning Campaign for Pulp Cthulhu

The world needs heroes, now more than ever!

Chaosium Unveiled: Inside The Two-Header Serpent

Watch the unveiling video to see the book for yourself. Remember that you get the PDF when getting the physical copy.

The Two-Headed Serpent is an action-packed, globe-spanning, and high-octane campaign set in the 1930s for Pulp Cthulhu. The heroes face the sinister conspiracies of an ancient race of monsters hell-bent on taking back a world that was once theirs.

Working for Caduceus, a medical aid organization, the heroes will loot a lost temple in the forests of Bolivia, go head-to-head with the Mafia in New York City, face a deadly epidemic in the jungles of North Borneo, uncover the workings of a strange cult in dust-bowl-era Oklahoma, infiltrate enemy territory inside an awakening volcano in Iceland, face the horrors of hideous medical experiments in the Congo, race to control an ancient and powerful artifact on the streets of Calcutta, and ultimately travel to a lost continent for a desperate battle to save humanity from enslavement or annihilation!

Packed with nine adrenalin-fuelled adventures, Keeper advice, gorgeous full-color maps and player handouts.

Note: Note: The Two-Headed Serpent has been specifically written to be played with Pulp Cthulhu, although (with adjustment) the campaign can be played just with the core 7th Edition rule set.

What The Critics Say

ENnies Award Nomination

Origins Award Nomination

    • "Action, action, non-stop action! While I was playtesting the present campaign for the review, Chaosium received no less than 10 ENnie Awards in the 2017 ceremony, including Gold for Best Supplement for Pulp Cthulhu. Talk about premonition. The Two-Headed Serpent raises the bar very high when it comes to the Pulp Cthulhu rules and style of play. Definitely not a rehash of Cthulhu tropes, it unapologetically demonstrates that Cthulhu and pulp can go hand in hand."

      — Antonios S., RPGNet Review.

    • "The plot details are even better than the original Masks of Nyarlathotep – the gold standard of Cthulhu scenarios. The Two Headed Serpent will provide many enjoyable game sessions of play."

      — GrogHeads, Two-Headed Serpent Review.

    • "A cross between Indiana Jones and Hellboy... awesome action movie fun with a beautifully realized Lovecraftian back drop... The staff at Chaosium have put together a marvelous globe trotting tale of monster filled, paranoia inducing, world ending mayhem."

      — Shoggoth.net, The Two-Headed Serpent by Chaosium.

    • "I especially love the variety of challenges the players must face and the amount of action which drives momentum to the finish line. 4 ½ Stars."

      — The Gaming Gang, The Gaming Gang Review.

    • "Holy wow, is this one explosive. Like, literally."

      — Vintage RPG, Two-Header Serpent Review.

    • "One of the most amazing campaign books I've ever read..."

      — Gamer Supply Sourcebook.

  • "…fun, fast-paced and full of crazy action scenes. For those who like the mechanics and style of Pulp Cthulhu this is a golden opportunity to put it to the test."

    — Mundo Tentacular, (Portuguese review).

    Two Headed Serpent

Posted by John Cruse on 24th Nov 2024

A wonderful experience across the board for me and my group. Great for those who want a Globetrotter like masks on a budget. Was laid out in a way that felt natural. Our only complaints were some grammatical errors within the book

    Great Pulpy Campaign

Posted by Morgan Hua on 17th Jul 2021

This campaign is well written and delivers on the Pulp meter. PCs travel the world and fight a global conspiracy. This is Indiana Jones, Doc Savage, The Shadow. You know you've got pulp when a PC gets swallowed by a giant snake and cuts his way out from the inside. A highly recommended campaign. Don't Miss This!

    A Truly Pulp Adventure

Posted by Unknown on 18th Aug 2017

An amazingly fun and well-written adventure. If you're looking for purist Lovecraftian horror, this obviously isn't it. If you're looking for comic-book powerful players, this isn't quite that either. It's more like if you take The Mummy or Indiana Jones and replaced the backdrop of their respective mythologies with the Cthulhu mythos, which works surprisingly well. As a huge fan of Lovecraft and the Call of Cthulhu game, this game is a lovely change of pace from all that inexorable dread and slow-paced investigation. A couple minor suggestions: the experience being the GM of other high-adventure roleplaying systems may prepare you better for this book than being a regular Keeper. (Playing all the NPCs as if they’re passive, flippant bystanders will make for an odd war in Bolivia.) Also, I found it a lot more fun to adjust the initiative system slightly to speed things up and give a “movie” feel, otherwise using the usual roll for initiative system, just have characters at the same result on initiative (i.e. Hard Success) act simultaneously. In the AD&D style, during each initiative step, have all parties (starting with the enemies) give a general idea of what they plan to do, then resolve the actions concurrently. Whatever you do, turn on that Raiders of the Lost Ark soundtrack and have fun!
