Guide to Glorantha - two volume slipcase set
by Greg Stafford, Jeff Richard, and Sandy Petersen
A world of gods, heroes, and mythic fantasy, fully described in epic detail.
Coming in at a massive 800 pages and 14 pounds, the two volumes of the Guide to Glorantha (which are 10 by 12 inch, full color, hardcover leatherette books) collectively make a complete encyclopedia of Glorantha. Its cosmology, culture, geography, history, mythology, people, and places are all explored in never before published detail. Hundreds of maps and illustrations bring the setting to life. The two volume second printing is housed in a special "50th Anniversary of Glorantha" slipcase.
Glorantha is one of the oldest and most influential fantasy role-playing settings. It is the discovery of Greg Stafford, who has accumulated that universe's myths, legends, and other lore since 1966. Glorantha has been the setting for several role-playing game systems, including RuneQuest and HeroQuest, and is the setting for the award-winning computer game King of Dragon Pass. Although games and stories set in Glorantha have been in publication since 1975, until now the setting has never been fully detailed in all its glory. Now with the Guide to Glorantha you can explore this classic fantasy setting in all its glorious depth.
The Guide to Glorantha is more than just a roleplaying game supplement and is not written for any particular role-playing game rules system. The Guide won the 2015 Diana Jones award for excellence in Roleplaying.

What the Critics Say
"Glorantha is Greg Stafford’s most famous creation. Countless tabletop RPG players have visited this strange land of gods and chaos... It is glorious. I am not sure there is a tabletop setting so richly detailed and strange... I love lots of tabletop settings, but they all pale in comparison to Glorantha."—Vintage RPG.

I miss this product when it was a Kickstarter and longed to get a copy but was scared off by the price tag at first. I had an opportunity to look it over at GENCON and decided that I needed a copy. The book is packed with all the information you could ever want concerning Glorantha. I like to choose random pages to read, and quickly find myself absorbed in the material and the magic of the setting.
This is Epic! It feels real, the setting and the interactions within the setting make sense. After contless hours of going through these tomes, I can safely say that I have spent many other contless hours thinking about what I had read. It is exhaustive, yet it gives you the freedom to interpret the setting and make it your own. There is a few lifetimes of adventures contained in those tomes. This is what a mythic fantasy setting should look like.
Its difficult to believe the depth in this book. It's an absolute gem. Artwork is fantastic and really helps bring the text and world to life. Wish I'd known about it sooner.
It is products like this that make Glorantha stand out from other fantasy worlds. The Guide to Glorantha is a magnum opus of RPG world building, and no other system has anything comparable. The size and detail of worldbuilding that has gone into this document eclipses anything else on the market today. If you love the world of Glorantha, these huge volumes form an encyclopedia that demonstrates the poverty of imagination in other RPG worlds. This is art.
Sure, Runequest has a great rule system, but the real secret to its success, and devoted following decades after its release, is the rich background provided by the world of Glorantha. The Guide to Glorantha could have been called Encyclopedia Gloranthica, it's just... Wow! So much information. So many beautiful illustrations. So many great ideas for campaigns. Wow!
