Necronomicon Providence Poster 2019

Chaosium is coming to NecronomiCon Providence next week (Aug 22-25) at the Omni Hotel in Providence, Rhode Island!

NecronomiCon Providence is an expansive exploration and celebration of all the greats of weird fiction, including predecessors and contemporaries of Providence’s H.P. Lovecraft, and the many authors and artists who have forged their own paths of weird.

You can purchase the latest Call of Cthulhu roleplaying game releases from our booth in the Grand Emporium of the Weird (vendor hall), including the NecronomiCon themed The Shadow Over Providence by Jon Hook with art and maps by Matt Ryan.

We will also have Starter Sets, Keeper Rulebooks, and Investigator Handbooks if you have been curious about Call of Cthulhu but have never had the chance to begin playing. You might even be able to get your purchases signed by one or more of our authors, including Paul Fricker, Scott Dorward, Matthew Sanderson and Jon Hook.

We will also be involved in running games and participating in panels; listed below is the full list of events that Mike Mason, Lynne Hardy, James Lowder, and Nicholas Nacario will be involved in during the convention, below.

You can register for games at https://tabletop.events/conventions under NecronomiCon Providence Gaming 2019.

Creating Historical Settings for Call of Cthulhu— Saturday 9:00 am to 10:15 am

One of the freedoms presented by the Call of Cthulhu RPG is the ability to set your games in any era, from the Stone Age through the Roaring Twenties to the Modern-Day and beyond! With the 1920s/30s era being particularly popular, how does one go about creating the right flavor, tone, and feel of a particular epoch? Where do you start if creating a historical setting?

Call of Cthulhu RPG: The Black Orchard— Saturday 12:30 pm to 4:50 pm

A series of strange occurrences calls for experts to ascertain whether supernatural forces are at play in a lonely farmhouse in the wilds of England. Is this a case of mind over matter or a foolish scam and money grab?

Endless Darkness, Endless Chaos, Endless War: The Cosmic Horror of the Warhammer Universe— Sunday 10:30 am to 11:45 am

The Warhammer universe is as vast as it is grim, positing cosmic horror on a scale that boggles the imagination. Victory at Home and Beyond: Investigators for Social Equality— Saturday 4:30 pm to 5:45 pm

How do we create stories that are true to the bleak Mythos vision of the universe while still telling diverse stories that represent everyone in cosmic horror? When the stars come right we will all be equal, so let’s hope we can pull it together before that happens. This panel will touch on this topic, and the work that still needs to be done in our industry towards inclusion, diversity, and equality.

James LowderCall of Cthulhu RPG: Cogs, Cakes & Cthulhu—Sunday 11:00 am to 3:00 pm

You are all members of “The Toffs” – a notorious gang of London jewel thieves. Well, that’s what the police call you, but you prefer to think of yourselves as specialists in the art of redistributing wealth, usually from someone else’s pockets to your own. And while you normally plan your own jobs, you’ve recently received a request from a Mr. Thaddeus Egremont, a Newcastle-based antiquarian, who says he has a task that requires your very particular skill set. He’s kindly provided you with train tickets for Newcastle and things are a little hot in the Old Smoke at the moment after that whole unfortunate thing with Lady Norton’s diamonds, so what harm could there be in a little jaunt to the north country?

JAMES LOWDER

Call of Cthulhu RPG: Nightmare City—Saturday 9:30 am to 1:30 pm

Speakeasies in Prohibition-era Chicago were not the safest places to frequent, but the best boasted high-quality drinks and even higher-quality entertainment. The Wilde Reputation was not one of those. This dingy joint offered the worst rotgut on the South Side and entertainment that could, on the wrong day, prove more dangerous than all the city’s mob bosses combined. For a handful of patrons gathered at the Reputation in January 1929, it’s the wrong day.
