It is 1917. The world is at war.
On the home front, Australia is wrestling with rapid technological change — aviation promising both thrilling progress and terrifying new forms of warfare.
Then the sightings begin.
Strange shapes moving through the clouds.
Lights flickering across the night sky.
Unidentified flying objects over the Central Highlands.
Ballarat is thrown into panic.
Invaders.
But from where?
Outer… Europe?
Call of Cthulhu returns to the Ballarat Heritage Festival, May 22nd at 7pm AEST!
Audiences are invited to join a team of plucky adventurers as they investigate whether these reports are wartime hysteria, elaborate hoaxes, or something far beyond what anyone could have imagined.
Blending live performance, improvisation, historical immersion, and interactive storytelling, the event will unfold in real time before both a live audience and an online streaming community.
Set within one of Ballarat’s most significant heritage buildings, the Ballaarat Mechanics' Institute, this production is produced by the ENNIE award winning Tales from Rat City team.
Tales from Rat City's previous shows for the Ballarat Heritage Festival were based on Call of Cthulhu scenarios by Australian creators. A Midsummer Night's Darkness (2025) was based on Jane Routley's Miskatonic Repository scenario of the same name, Spectral Schemes (2024) was adapted from Kat Clay's Miskatonic Repository scenario The Hammersmith Haunting, and William Bailey's Haunted Mansion (2023) was based on David Waldron and Shannon Nichols' scenario of the same name.
Chaosium is proud to once again support this event.
