Pendragon: The Boy King - The Epic TTRPG Campaign Returns
Posted by Brian on 23rd May 2026

Pendragon: The Boy King is the first book of the Great Pendragon Campaign and provides a year-by-year breakdown of the epic sweep of King Arthur’s life during the conquest period – from the drawing of the sword from the stone, to Arthur’s ascension to the throne.
In this first campaign book for Pendragon 6th edition, players and gamemasters will explore a war-torn Britain endeavoring to pull itself out of a generation of anarchy, war, and petty squabbles that nearly tore the land asunder, now under the leadership of an unlikely, idealistic young king who wishes to see a better world for all.
In the decades since the original Great Pendragon Campaign was published in 1985, Greg Stafford added much to his tale as he encountered new sources of lore and made appropriate adjustments to his timeline and notes. We have endeavored to integrate these notes and changes to his original text in as respectful and seamless a fashion as possible.
The result is inarguably the most fully integrated vision of Arthurian Britain ever produced, full stop.
Our aim with the new edition is to take the core of previous campaign, revise and correct where needed, and apply and expand upon the material Greg collected, collated, and wrote prior to his passing in 2018.
This necessitates a multi-volume approach. Whether you are running your games from the Pendragon Starter Set or the Pendragon Core Rulebook, Gamemaster’s Handbook, and Noble’s Handbook, Pendragon: The Boy King directly builds on the world presented in those books.
In each of the upcoming two years, we will publish additional volumes of the campaign, which expand upon The Boy King and allow you to set campaigns in other eras both subsequent and prior to the Boy King’s rise to power. You do not need to play through the entire campaign presented in The Boy King in order to play one of the later volumes – the intention is for each volume of the new Great Pendragon Campaign to stand on its own. The material in The Boy King alone covers nearly twenty in-game years, more than enough for a long and memorable campaign. Every volume in the series covers a similar span of time and includes scenarios for both launching and wrapping up your campaign in a narratively satisfying fashion should you wish to stick to a single volume’s material.
Of course, if you want the full, epic experience, each campaign can be played sequentially, using the same Player-knights (and likely their heirs!).
We are extremely excited to continue to bring Greg Stafford’s vision of Arthur to life. Under the guidance of line editor David Larkins and art director Paul Tobin, we expect this edition of The Great Pendragon Campaign to live on in the memories of gamers for decades to come, just as Greg intended.
The book will be available in three different versions: the standard edition, the collector’s edition leatherette, and for the first time a special edition with an alternate cover. The special edition is a limited print run and unlike the other versions, will not be reprinted.
Pendragon: The Boy King will be available in pre-release at Gen Con 2026, and will release worldwide in August.
