Miskatonic Mentions #110: Expedition to Sumner, the first Miskatonic Repository scenario set in New Zealand
Posted by Michael O'Brien on 1st Nov 2026

We've renamed the long-running series "Miskatonic Monday" to "Miskatonic Mentions" so we don't have keep waiting for Mondays to come round to post!
All aboard for destinations unknown! Several years ago our friends at the Miskatonic Playhouse created an interactive world map of Call of Cthulhu scenarios on the Miskatonic Repository and their locations. And now there is a new location to add to the map: Royce Wilson's Expedition to Sumner.
Royce says, "Significantly, Expedition to Sumner is the first Miskatonic Repository adventure ever set in New Zealand - which surprised me when I found out, as NZ has a long and canonical connection to the Cthulhu Mythos."

New Zealand 1928 – A new cave has been discovered in the seaside town of Sumner, near Christchurch in the South Island of New Zealand. An expedition, led by archaeologist Dr Josephine Hamilton, has been formed to explore the new cave and document any discoveries it makes.
Royce, a native Kiwi himself, will be attending Chaosium Con New Zealand later this month in Wellington, New Zealand. Our community ambassador Nick Brooke will also be there, and running our very popular Community Content Pop-Up Store with a range of print titles from our Miskatonic Repository, Jonstown Compendium, Companions of Arthur, and Sagas of the North independent creator programs.

Find our more about Chaosium Con New Zealand here.
Under The Miskatonic Repository community content license, Call of Cthulhu fans can make their own work for use with the game line available to the public, using guidelines, templates, and art provided by Chaosium.
Whether you share your content for free or put it up for sale, this program is a digital home for terror that joins the dreamscapes of all who peruse it.
