Inking the woodcut cover art for Sisterhood; Liv Rainey-Smith shows her process

Posted by Michael O'Brien on 19th May 2021

The cover art of Chaosium's newly-released fiction anthology Sisterhood: Dark Tales and Secret Histories is a beautiful hand-pulled woodcut by artist Liv Rainey-Smith. Here she shows part of her process; the first inking of the woodcut cover.

About Liv Rainey-Smith

Liv Rainey-Smith was introduced to the art of printmaking at Oregon College of Art and Craft where she received her BFA in 2008. Her hand-pulled xylographic prints are created primarily with cotton rag paper, although she also works with genuine animal skin parchment and sometimes alters her prints with mineral pigments and gilding. She draws inspiration from early woodcuts, folklore, dreams, nightmares, the mythos of H.P. Lovecraft, and esoteric traditions.

In addition to Chaosium's Sisterhood: Dark Tales and Secret Histories, her work has graced the pages of Children of Cain and Arcanum Bestiarium published by Three Hands Press, and The Starry Wisdom Library from P.S. Publishing.
