Chaos Has a New Face: Unveiling the new Scorpion Man design for RuneQuest

Posted by Brian Holland on 9th Jul 2026

Scorpion Men are horrible monsters of Chaos, half-man half-arthropod with a lethal sting in the tail. An iconic and uniquely Gloranthan creature, these enemies have been terrorizing adventurers since the first edition of RuneQuest, nearly 50 years ago.

Today, we unveil a new look for Scorpion Men, with art and design by the incomparable Loïc Muzy!

Long-time RuneQuest fans will notice a few differences about our arthropoid friend. Take a look at how the Scorpion Man is described in the Bestiary chapter of the upcoming RuneQuest Core Rulebook

Arthropod-beasts of Chaos!

More scorpion than men, they are a sort of man-scorpion centaur, with the chest, arms, and head of a man, but the abdomen, tail, and rear legs of a scorpion. They are creatures of Chaos and live in small villages in the high mountains. They make their living raiding and hiring out as bodyguards to optimistic employers who tolerate their Chaotic nature.

Scorpion Men often wear bronze masks wrought with human features to hide the mandibles that many of them have on lower half of their face. The bronze has turned green due to the proximity to Chaos.

Let's take a closer look at that adorable face!

While we absolutely love the new detail of the mask, we're not exactly sure if this guy would be fooling anyone...

Our friends at Rune Marked Miniatures are currently working on a sculpt for this new design of Scorpion Man, and you can check out the preview right here!

You can find the rules for Scorpion Men in the upcoming RuneQuest Core Rulebook, and in the RuneQuest: Glorantha Bestiary
