Miskatonic Monday: more scenarios for Cthulhu Dark Ages, plus new releases

Posted by Michael O'Brien on

We've just released Cthulhu Dark Ages Third Edition, set in the medieval world of Anglo-Saxon England. The book comes with three new Dark Ages scenarios – The Hunt, The Doom That Came to Wessex, and Eseweald – and when you've played those, where next if you want to keep your Call of Cthulhu investigations in the Dark Ages?

That's where the Miskatonic Repository can step in! Here are three Dark Ages adventures already available, hopefully the first of many:

Misk Rep Dark Ages releases

A Colour in a Dark Age
Jonathan Baxter ($0.99, 19 page PDF)

Europe in the Middle Ages. Dark lands swept by ignorence, fear, and superstition. This Medieval scenario for 7th Edition Call of Cthulhu plunges the players into the wild forests of Germany where they will encounter warring factions, occult practices, religious persecution, and an other-worldly infestation.

The players are travelers in the forested wilderness of 10th century Germany. They must get to the heart of a mysterious blight that is plaguing the land, all while dodging roaming bandits and monstrous woodland creatures. They will find themselves caught between two warring human factions and must forge alliances or play both sides off each other in order to survive the scenario.

This download includes seven full-page maps in addition to 16 statted NPCs. This scenario can be played in three to four sessions of one to two hours each. This scenario is ideal for a group of three player Investigators but can easily be structured for larger or smaller groups.

The Raid
Marco Carrer ($1.00, 12 page PDF)

A journey to the West has become a nightmare for a crew of warriors. Will they be able to come back to their families and their motherland? Or will they perish?

A one-shot scenario for Call of Cthulhu 7th edition set in the Viking era. Includes 6 pre-gen characters. Also available in Italian.

The Mad Priest
Marco Carrer (Free, 10 page PDF)

The mad priest has arrived in your village. Are you ready to face the consequences?

A one-shot scenario for Call of Cthulhu 7th edition set in the Viking era.

[Also note, the Chaosium 7th Edition release Ripples from Carcosa features a Dark Ages scenario, "Herald to the King", and in The Vault (pre-7th ed), you'll find a number of Dark Ages monographs.]

Lost Symmetry
Benjamin Schäfer ($2.99, 12 page PDF)

This classic 1920s scenario takes place at Boston University (or any other university the keeper deems appropriate). James Bryant, one of Professor Edward Hartman's most promising math students, goes missing only a few days before the exams. Bryant is known for his brilliant mind and borderline obsession with ‘continuous but not differentiable functions’. There’s no way he would miss the exams under normal circumstances. Something must be wrong – and his fellow students will find out what...

The assignment
Marco Carrer ($0.75, 10 page PDF)

An important parchment was stolen and the investigator will need to find it. Is this a simple case of stolen goods or there is more under the surface?

A Cthulhu Invictus 7th edition scenario for one player and one keeper. Pre-gen is included.

Mauerfall, 1961-1989
Murray Dahm ($4.99, 36 page PDF)

The splitting of Berlin and Germany in 1945 between the Soviet Union and the other Allied powers proved too much and the enforced division of Berlin and Germany rent its soul in two. The manifestation of that torn soul yearns with an unbearable hunger to be reunited but in its pain, it drives any who stand in its way out of their minds. The torn soul of Germany also knows that reunification can only be affected at the proper time and the proper place, when circumstances (and the stars) are right.

The investigators in this adventure are all residents in West Berlin between 1961 and 1989, caught up in the hot point of the Cold War.
