Posted by Michael O'Brien on

Victor MilanWe were saddened to learn that SF author and RPG gamer Victor Milán died in Albuquerque on February 13th. A prolific writer, Milán wrote for the Forgotten Realms, Star Trek, and Wild Cards Universes, among others, and in 1994 received the Prometheus Award for his novel Cybernetic Samurai

His short story 'Mr Skin' was widely considered one of the stand-out pieces in the 1994 Chaosium anthology Cthulhu's Heirs

Cthulhu's HeirsIn a eulogy for his long-time friend and writing colleague, Game of Thrones author George RR Martin said that Milán was "in a sense... the father of Wild Cards", GRRM's long-standing superhero series that was inspired by Chaosium's Superworld RPG. Martin received a copy of Superworld from Victor as a birthday present back in 1983, and then they played in a "long, long", very absorbing campaign together and with other Santa Fe writers.

"I can't tell you how many times we stayed up till dawn playing Superworld, Call of Cthulhu, and other RPGs with Vic, and laughing at the outrageous antics of the characters he created", writes Martin in his appreciation of his friend.
