Chaosium X Cards now on Redbubble

Posted by Michael O'Brien on 23rd Nov 2025

Everyone’s wellbeing is more important than any game. The X Card system created by John Stavropoulos is one way to help players and game masters feel safe and comfortable when roleplaying together, especially in convention and game store settings where people may not necessarily know each other, and there is no time for a session zero to set expectations.

Over at our Chaosium Redbubble store we've created themed X Cards for Call of Cthulhu, Age of Vikings, Rivers of London, Pendragon and RuneQuest game sessions. These come in sets of four coasters, with a cork backing.

PLEASE NOTE WE ARE OFFERING THESE X CARD COASTERS AT COST, we make no profit from them:

Our X Cards are also available to download for free at our Itch.io page. You are welcome to print them out and display them on your table at a convention or game store.

"X-cards didn't exist when Mike Mason and I wrote the 7th edition of Call of Cthulhu. But safety tools aren’t new — we just didn’t have a name for them back in the day", says Call of Cthulhu associate editor Paul Fricker. Paul gives his view about the utility of X-cards at his blog:
