In the postscript of his novel, The Name of the Rose, Umberto Eco suggests the greatest mystery novel would end with the reader discovering that he was the murderer.

As soon as I read that, I said to myself, “That can only happen in a roleplaying game.”

And thus, this adventure.

Who Killed Lord Wójcik is a murder mystery that exploits the unique technology of roleplaying games in a way that novels, movies, and TV shows cannot. It includes:

  • A handful of possible assassins
  • GM Advice

    An Interesting Starting Point

Posted by Alicia on 5th Dec 2022

The story is designed so that the GM can adapt it to suit their players. Although it is not recommended (by the author) to use this as a starting story, I disagreed and had my players start within the climax of the story, suffering magic-induced amnesia and needing to solve the tale in order to save their own skins. It allowed them to decide how they might know each other and to bond over the goal of staying alive (all in the situation together despite having very different backgrounds). One thing I will say is that it is not very long unless the GM gets creative. But now my players have a home-base with NPC that like them and are now "sponsoring" the group in thanks (aka as a bribe, based on how it resolved). Worth giving it a try
