Welcome to Glorantha!
Glorantha is a world with a deep and rich setting, drawing influence from the Bronze Age and other ancient world cultures and mythologies, created by Greg Stafford in 1966. From its first appearance in print as a strategy boardgame titled White Bear, Red Moon in 1975 by The Chaosium (as it was then called) to the first edition of the roleplaying game RuneQuest in 1978, Glorantha has been used as the setting for roleplaying games, computer games, boardgames, novels, encyclopedias, comics, and other creative expressions, with a dedicated and global fan base. Now, Glorantha is firmly established as one of the most popular original game settings ever, and the influence of RuneQuest is everywhere in roleplaying and computer game design.
RuneQuest’s percentile-based rules system has been used to drive many other wildly-successful games, including Stormbringer, ElfQuest, Ringworld, and most notably Call of Cthulhu, itself one of the most popular roleplaying games worldwide. RuneQuest’s simple, intuitive rules (the Basic Roleplaying system) has directly inspired other games, including HeroQuest, King Arthur Pendragon, and dozens, if not hundreds of other games over the decades since its first appearance.
Over the years, several editions of RuneQuest have appeared (some under other imprints), some tied to Glorantha and some without a setting, but now marks a return to Glorantha being inextricably melded with RuneQuest.
Chaosium, Inc. is proud to announced that the new, upcoming edition of RuneQuest was created in close collaboration with Greg Stafford, the creator of Glorantha, as well as many of the original RuneQuest writers and desginers, bringing this edition full circle as the definitive RuneQuest for new and veteran players alike.
