Mythos Standard Tournament Rules
Mythos Standard Tournament Rules
Structure and Seeding
Official Mythos tournaments consist of a predetermined number of non-elimination point scoring rounds followed by a final game with the top scorers. Participants should be randomly selected and placed into groups of four. Each group then plays one game. When all games have ended or run out of time, the round is ended. Points are awarded based upon Adventures completed and degree of victory. After all scores are calculated the players should be divided by score from top to bottom in groups of four, ties being resolved by a coin toss. Each round continues in this same fashion, with grouping determined by the last round's score. A running total is kept for each player for the entire tournament. When the non-elimination rounds are completed the top four scorers play one final game to determine the final placement and victor. All players tied for the fourth position are allowed to play in the final game.
Rules
The official rules will be those from the latest release of Mythos, plus any clarifications in magazines and posted to our web site at
http://www.chaosium.com/mythos.
Card Limits
All the rules in the Mythos rulebook must be followed. A tournament deck may not contain less than 52 cards. Players may use the same Investigator card; turn order for them is determined by a coin flip at the start of the game. The Create Your Own Adventure card is not allowed in tournament play. All players must play with real cards; proxies are not allowed. Cards from foreign editions are legal in play. At any time an official may check the legality of a player's deck. There are no side bars or card substitution allowed between any of the rounds.
Time
Each round begins when the tournament official announces the start and ends 50 minutes later. Games not finished when time is called must immediately be stopped and are scored as if the game had ended normally.
Rounds
A standard tournament should consist of at least three non-elimination rounds, giving a total tournament time of about four hours. Each game is the campaign style, with 20+ points ending the game. There is no time limit on the final game.
Scoring: At the conclusion of each game players score a number of points equal to their completed Adventures plus a bonus for final position. The bonuses are First 10 points, Second 5 points, Third 2 points, and 0 for last place in a game. Final position to get these bonuses is determined by the total number of points (Adventures plus remaining Sanity) as described in the rulebook. The final round is scored separately as a normal campaign game of 20 points.
Judges
There must be at least one official in charge of maintaining the tournament. All official judges may be called upon to handle stalling, disruptive, or abusive players. They may issue a warning or expel the player at their discretion.
