What's New in the Dreamlands?
DIMENSIONS: AN OVERVIEW: This is the biggest addition. With the release of The Dreamlands, not all of the Mythos cards belong to that dimension we know and love, the Waking World. There's now a new Dimension, called the Dreamlands.
To help differentiate between different dimensions, a Dimensional Indicator has been added. It's down at the bottom of the card, between the special effect box, and the Sanity pentagram. If a card has the Dreamlands Dimension icon, that means it's part of the Dreamlands. You have to be in the Dreamlands dimension to play it.
Now, as you're doubtless aware, the Waking World doesn't have a Dimensional Indicator. This causes a tiny bit of confusion. Any Allies and Locations without a Dimensional Indicator are considered to be in the Waking World. Thus, you must be in the Waking World to play them. All other cards (i.e., Artifacts, Tomes, Spells, Adventures, Monsters, and Events) without Dimensional Indicators may be played anywhere.
In Summary:
TRAVELING BETWEEN DIMENSIONS: In short, you can't do it unless you
have a card that specifically allows it. There are several in The Dreamlands.
THE NEW SPELL ICON: One new spell icon has been added in The Dreamlands, the Dream icon. It works just like every other icon. However, you'll quickly discover that every Tome with the Dream icon in it can only be found in the Dreamlands. That means you'll either need to visit the Dreamlands to learn the spells, or have some spell-carrying Allies do their own research. Currently, the Dream Spell icon is unique, in that cards of that type are the only ones that can affect the Mythos Deck.
THE DREAMLANDS REGIONS: Since The Dreamlands is a new Dimension, it has a whole set of new Regions. All of the Regions in the Dreamlands set, including the familiar Exotic Location and Lovecraft Country Regions, are noted at the right. Cats and a Library make it easier to get around the Regions in the Dreamlands, and thus the large number is not as daunting as it might first appear. The West and the East are both full regions, the Underworld has a handful of very cool Locations, while the North and South are each represented by just a few powerful Locations.
RESTRICTED ARTIFACTS AND TOMES: With the release of The Dreamlands there are now one Artifact and one Tome (the Zenig of Aphorat and the Dreamlands Edition of the Necronomicon) that may only be found at certain Locations. Each of these has a gray region color bar to denote the fact that they may only be played in Exotic Locations. This fact is supported by the text "Play only at an Exotic Location."
CONJUNCTIVE LANGUAGES: Some Tomes now have multiple languages listed. If these languages are joined by an and (e.g., English and Esperanto), then you must know both languages to play the card. If these languages are joined by an or (e.g., English or Pascal), then if you know either language you can play the card.
THREAT EVENTS: A new subtype of Event, the Threat Event, appears in The Dreamlands. These Events are played to your Threat at a Gate, just like a Monster. While there, they act like a Monster of no specific subtype.
