The Stars are Right! Chaosium, publishers of the Call of Cthulhu RPG, has released The Call of Cthulhu (for beginning readers), a 102 page homage to H.P. Lovecraft's original story, done in classic children's book style.

This fantastic hardback full color adaptation was written and illustrated by popular deviantart.com artist R.J. Ivankovic, and has been something of a labor of love for the Australian artist. Says Ivankovic, "The whole book started out as a single illustration that I enjoyed creating so much that I just kept on going until the entire story was done. The book now represents almost five years of work."

Ivankovic has rewritten H.P. Lovecraft's tale in verse:

Of the writing process, Ivankovic (pictured below) says:

"I initially wrote the rhymes for each page as I went along, illustrating them as I went. Towards the end I gave in and focused on writing all of the remaining rhymes first. For weeks (months? years?) I spent just about every waking moment running variations of anapaestic tetrameter through my head trying to get the story to fit: driving to and from work, in the shower, watching television, lying in bed, whenever, wherever. Random bits of paper and post-it notes with fragments of a line, or a few scribbled words are still turning up every now and then in drawers all over the house."

H.P. Lovecraft's The Call of Cthulhu (for beginning readers) is available now directly from Chaosium Inc.
